The Advent emerged in 1994 as a techno production duo consisting of Cisco Ferreira and Colin McBean (Mr. G). Between 1998 and 1999, the duo parted ways, and since then, The Advent has been the solo project of Cisco Ferreira, a renowned DJ and producer based in London, UK.
Cisco’s journey in the electronic music scene began in 1987 when he joined the legendary Jack Trax label after completing a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) course in sound engineering. This opportunity allowed him to collaborate with various house and techno producers. In 1988, he moved to Belgium to work with R&S Records, teaming up with artists like CJ Bolland. He Retured the UK in 1990, where he met Colin McBean. The two began producing tracks together, marking the inception of The Advent.

The Advent – Elements of Life (Internal) 4LP
Track: City Limits
A benchmark electro techno track from their first album, which is packed with cool tracks.
Man Made – Space Wreck / Industry (Fragile) 12″
Track: Space Wreck
One of his many aliases. A delicious 909 workout.
Zargo – Snapshot (i.t.p.) 12″
Track: Snapshot
The unmistakable Advent sound seasoned with some squelchy 303 on the greatly missed UK label i.t.p. The rest of the label is worth a listen—lots of good releases.
B.C. – Stronghold (i.t.p.) 12″
Track: Stronghold
A very cool under-the-radar collaboration between R&S associates Robert Leiner and Ferreira. Sounds like Basic Channel did an electro track.
Innersound – Out Cast (Conform) 12″
Track: N Dance
Intense stuff. The more minimal «N Dance» is the staff favorite here.
The Advent – Westsiders (Electrix) 12″
Track: Only Power
A brilliant three-track electro EP by Cisco.
The Advent – Ice Planet EP (Kombination Research) 12″
Track: X-Wired
Cisco Ferreira on his own. As often on KR, the electro track is the winner. After a streak of tough releases on Internal, they started their own Kombination Research label and kept their fast productivity level on target.
Shi-Take – Digital Domain (The Advent Remixes) (Zoom) 12″
Track: Digital Domain (Shi Mix)
UK record store and label Zoom commissioned two hard-hitting techno remixes here.
Manuel and Clive – Warp EP (L-43084-X) 10″
Track: Warp #1
Another version of «Bounce Factor» on i.t.p. Dark, ritualistic acidic techno—not for the faint-hearted.
The Advent – Past Forward (Conform) 2LP
Track: B.4.
When Colin went solo, he took some of the house influences with him. These excursions have a more straightforward percussive focus, leaning strongly on the ride cymbal for a softer feel. It fits Italian label Conform well.
The Advent – Exit EP (Kombination Research) 12″
Track: E. Tox
If you are unfamiliar with the concept that the B2 track—the last track—is the best, this is a good example. The Advent’s techno sound is unmistakable, but when they did electro, they took things a little further.
The Advent – New Beginnings (Internal) 12″
Track: Future City
Link not available on YouTube.
Before Kombination Research was born, their pretty 12″ series on Internal showcased some serious techno-electro combinations.
Morph – The Advent Remixes (Synewave) 12″
Track: X-Ex (The Advent Remix)
They kept the main 303 cycle and spiced it with some phased hats.
The Subjective – Comin Thru / Like Warriors (Rotation) 12″
Track: Comin Thru
Even pitched down, this might not fit in all DJ sets—a shame since it’s a cool track with some enjoyable trademark 909 jamming.
Commander Tom – Eye Bee M (Remixes) (Noom) 12″
Track: The Vulcan (Advent Mix)
When you ask for a remix by The Advent, you get The Advent.
The Advent – Time Trap Technik (Kombination Research) 2LP
Track: Let Us Take You
Link not available.
Cisco Ferreira carrying the torch alone on this album. Luckily, they did a vinyl release as well. Clean production as always, now with a focus on more classic ’80s electro sounds—vocoder, analog strings, minor scales, cowbells, and all the things.
